Bring on the awards ceremony in Malta! Judge Roland Watson-Grant described it as "a sweeping, layered tale. Grounded in reality and set in one of history’s most gruesome moments, this darkly comical story offered dual perspectives of man and beast, the capturer and the captured, with such pace, it holds on and never lets go the reader right to the very end".</span></p>Camillahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13912449887289282793noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2559572337823610826.post-21871313674115793392021-10-12T07:31:00.000-07:002021-10-12T07:31:10.013-07:00Winning short story published!<p>Thrilled that my winning entry for the Margery Allingham/Crime Writers' Association Short Story Prize is now available to read <a href="https://thecwa.co.uk/debuts/short-story-competition/2021-winning-story">here</a>. Here's how the judges described it: "A delightful, beautifully written story set in TV soapland. The breezy narration never falters as the charm of solving a crime creeps over the soap's fan. The judges felt Margery would have loved this story." It will be published on the CWA website later in the year.<span style="background-color: white;"> </span></span></p>Camillahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13912449887289282793noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2559572337823610826.post-64674170144402465972020-05-03T06:16:00.002-07:002020-05-03T06:16:22.948-07:00Fish Publishing Short Story Prize<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Thrilled that my story No Alternative is a winner in the Fish Short Story Prize, and has been published in their 2019 Anthology. No Alternative was described by judge Mia Gallagher as: "A
subtle tale which appears to start simply enough, bleakness suffusing every
line of its spare, unshowy prose in the opening section. Everything seems
straightforward. Okay, you'll think, I've got it, I know where this is going.
But then a single line - a man's heart unpredictably skipping - snares you, and
you're hooked, following the chilly, relentless inevitability of Paul's journey
as he, you and the story sink deeper into a profound Mephistophelian darkness.
This subject matter, if handled with less integrity, could result in something
horribly schlocky. In this writer's hands it is perfect. Faust for the FundMe
generation."</span><br />

I now feel technically ept on two fronts - first, the use of QR codes in Pictures at an Exhibition, which is unique in fiction, and then speaking to a book club remotely. It opens up the whole world! Thank you to all the members for asking such good questions and being so positive about my book (and so kind about me dialling in late!).Camillahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13912449887289282793noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2559572337823610826.post-65548851915826432162012-09-13T05:17:00.002-07:002012-09-13T05:17:30.888-07:00Hampstead & Highgate Literary FestivalI appeared at my first literary festival this weekend - the Hampstead & Highgate Literary Festival not too far from where I live. It was a pleasure to meet the other panellists, Kathleen MacMahon (author of This is How it Ends) and Harriet Lane (author of Alys, Always), and Belinda Jack who acted as facilitator. Belinda is the author of, amongst other things, non-fiction book The Woman Reader, which tells the history of women's reading and the controversies that it has inspired.Camillahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13912449887289282793noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2559572337823610826.post-85150284427409470092012-09-01T11:30:00.001-07:002012-09-01T11:31:05.475-07:00Review in the Irish Examiner I was really pleased to see this interview and review by Sue Leonard in the Irish Examiner, calling Pictures at an Exhibition "Stunning. I was very honoured on my recent family trip to Vancouver to have a Canadian book launch held for me by Elsie Smith. It was perfectly timed for the Jubilee and had the theme of a unique British tea - ladies' only as well! There were cucumber sandwiches, petits fours, scones and all sorts of other treats, as well as champagne to calm my nerves before I did my first ever book reading. I was thrilled to be able to sign some copies of my book and answer a lot of excellent questions about the writing process and how I came up with the idea behind my book. My world book tour has now encompassed England and Canada - next stop Scotland. I am attaching a photo with apologies for the greenish hue which is because the camera battery was almost flat. Thank you to all those who attended and above all to Elsie for making it such a special, memorable occasion for me.Camillahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13912449887289282793noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2559572337823610826.post-60271609981254738662012-06-01T06:52:00.000-07:002012-06-01T06:52:05.857-07:00Daily Mail review<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I had a great time at the launch party for Pictures at an Exhibition last Thursday. I was really pleased to sell more than 100 copies of the book - which was as many as Waterstone's had ordered in. If you were disappointed, please do find another way to get hold of a copy, either through Amazon or ordering it in through your local bookshop. Lots of photos to follow in due course and thank you all for your support.Camillahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13912449887289282793noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2559572337823610826.post-74410387986367771582012-05-10T02:25:00.004-07:002012-05-10T02:25:52.448-07:00Financial Times review!I was really pleased to find that the FT reviewed Pictures at an Exhibition this weekend and praised its "inventive conceit" and "ekphrasis". I had to look this one up even though I am a Classicist so maybe I should have known already - anyway it means 'description of paintings'!Camillahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13912449887289282793noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2559572337823610826.post-21711859992784275362012-05-03T03:47:00.000-07:002012-05-03T03:47:24.055-07:00Reading Guide for Bookclubs!I am thrilled that Random House have produced some reading notes to accompany Pictures at an Exhibition.
